Natural Organic Fabric by OEcotextiles

O Ecotextiles is changing the way textiles are made by proving that it is possible to produce luxurious, sensuous fabrics in ways that are non-toxic, ethical and sustainable.

Beyond Organic:   They select only high quality, natural fibres that have been grown without pesticides, herbicides or chemical fertilizers.  But since growing even organically certified cotton, one of nature's thirstiest plants, can contribute to the desertification of the world, they emphasise the use of natural fibres such as hemp, bamboo, flax (linen) and abaca.  Although agencies are not yet certifying the fibres used in these fabrics as organic, all O Ecotextiles natural fibres are grown responsibly.  For instance, all bamboo comes from areas that do no affect panda habitat.

The Hidden Dangers:  Processing textiles is one of the most chemically intensive activities on earth and the top industrial polluter of clean water.  It takes about 500 gallons of water to produce enough fabric to cover just one sofa.  The fabric on that sofa contains chemical residues that may trigger allergic reactions, asthma, or worse.  O Ecotextiles are hoping to make a dent in this chemical onslaught by using new, benign processes and encouraging dialogue about the implications of our textile choices.

  • O Ecotextiles fabrics are safe   Of the 2000 chemicals used in textile manufacturing O Ecotextiles uses NONE of those which are known (or suspected) to harm humans or the environment.  There are no residues in the fabrics which can be breathed in or absorbed through the skin.
  • O Ecotextiles fabrics are sustainable  The mills treat their wastewater so that chemicals used during processing are not returned to our ecosystem.  The most benign environmental practices are chosen at each step of processing.
  • O Ecotextiles fabrics are sensuous, organic yet opulent, green and gorgeous   The fibres are the most luxurious available in the world.  The fabrics become more lustrous with use without degrading.
  • O Ecotextiles are authentic with third party certifications to back up their claims, the Global Organic textile Standard and Oeko-Tex 100 among them.
